Justin Piehowski

A 'Well-Architected' career

Speaker: Justin Piehowski
Level: Introductory and overview
Duration: 25 min

A year ago, I walked onto the Dreamforce keynote stage. I was a Salesforce Well-Architected Evangelist, and this was the biggest speaking event of my life. I’d spent more than a decade grinding, failing cert exams, learning from hard clients, buildin...

g relationships, and slowly earning trust across the Salesforce ecosystem.

Under the Dreamforce lights, something clicked. I delivered the talk. It landed. For the first time, I felt real clarity. I was at the top of the Salesforce career mountain.

And then, a few weeks later, everything collapsed.

Salesforce eliminated the elite ten-person Well-Architected team. My career at Salesforce was over in an instant. Highest high, lowest low.

But I didn’t fall. Something underneath held me up.

Long before I learned the Salesforce Well-Architected Framework, I was building a career with strong foundations, diverse pathways, and no single point of failure. Golf caddy. Oil-change jockey. Bartender. TV journalist. Media coach. Army infantryman. Yogi. Graduate student. Consultant. Teacher. Each new role and relationship added a capability, a new dependency, a pocket of adaptability, and—most importantly—a network of people who trusted me. When the Salesforce layer collapsed, my career architecture carried the load.

However, the deepest foundation of all did not come from me. It was built by my grandparents, Polish war refugees who rebuilt their lives in the U.S. after being displaced during WWII. A school janitor and a lunch-lady at my grade school. They never drove a car or wrote English, but they created the generational career architecture and work ethic upon which I stand. They worked hard with their hands. I sit in an air-conditioned office, talking about Salesforce, drinking coffee, and making more money than they could have ever imagined.

In this talk, I’ll show you the hidden architecture behind careers that survive reinvention. You’ll learn:

• How to design a career with redundancy, adaptability, and failure tolerance
• How to map your own career components and failure modes
• How generational architecture shapes resilience and identity
• How to build forward through mentorship, access, and pathways to meaningful work

This is a story of collapse, reinvention, and the power of understanding the big picture of work.

Jobs ends. Industries shift.
Well-architected careers endure.

Why Attend:

Most Salesforce talks teach you how to architect systems. This one shows you how to architect your career — the thing that has to survive every shift, every restructure, every “new direction” your company decides to take. If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, overlooked, or unsure of what comes next, this talk gives you a way to think about your career that is both practical and deeply human.

session, packed with code examples, real use cases, and honest discussion.
In this session, I want to show that we can break the rules - as long as we understand why. This session is for people who want to learn something new and explore ideas that might be a little controversial. As Metallica used to sing: open your mind for a different view.

Why Attend:

It’s something new - I’m not going to repeat topics that have already been shown many times. This presentation is based on my own experiences gathered from many projects. It’s going to be something fresh, and maybe even a bit controversial. The idea is to open developers’ minds to a different view and show that everything depends on context - there are no “best practices” you always have to follow.

Build your own Slack chatbot!

Level: Intermediate
Duration: 40 min

AI is most useful when it lives where your team already works. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to build an AI-powered Slack chatbot to understand requests, generate responses, and automate tasks directly inside your workspace.

We’ll...

start by breaking down the architecture of a production-ready Slack AI app: event subscriptions, slash commands, message handling, and secure model calls using the Slack SDK. From there, we will explore how the chatbot processes user input, sends it to an LLM, and returns contextual, safe, and actionable outputs.

You’ll see how to:

Set up a Slack app with permissions, bot tokens, and secrets management.

Build message listeners that trigger LLM calls and handle streaming responses.

Implement grounding, system prompts, and safety guardrails for Anthropic and OpenAI for example

Add functionality such as summarization, Q&A, and lightweight workflow automation.

Deploy and test the bot locally, then prepare it for production.

Expect code-driven explanations, live debugging, and practical patterns you can copy into your own projects. Whether you’re integrating AI into internal tools or building the next generation of conversational apps, you’ll leave knowing exactly how to connect Slack with modern LLMs — and how to design an AI chatbot that feels fast, helpful, and trustworthy.

If you want to supercharge your Slack workspace with real AI capabilities, this session is your blueprint to get started.

From doing to delegating: How to embrace career growth and become a great tech leader

Speaker: Sarah Kelleher
Level: Introductory and overview
Duration: 25 min

Transitioning from a hands-on technical role to a leadership position involves more than just acquiring new skills; it requires a fundamental shift in mindset and approach. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the most challenging, and non-linear, caree...

r moves in technology. In this session, we’ll focus on the essential emotional and practical shifts required to excel as a great tech leader. We'll explore the critical difference between management (systems and structures) and true leadership (people and vision), and confront the traps that you’ll face along the way.

The key takeaways you can expect are how to shift from personal execution to empowering a team; embrace strategic tasks, like coaching and stakeholder management, as the real work of a leader; and how to balance trust and boundaries without feeling totally out of your depth. Join me as we use realworld examples and practical advice to explore the journey from being an individual contributor to becoming an effective tech leader and if that is the right path for you.

Why Attend:

Over the last decade, I've been on my own journey into tech leadership from entry-level consultant to CEO. I've fallen into many traps, and also seen colleagues and friends fall into the same ones over and over again. This session helps bring clarity for people who might be struggling to find their flow in a leadership position or to help those who are preparing for their first leadership role. This session was really well-received at London's Calling.

From Prompt to Production: The Missing Manual for Testing AI Agents

Level: Intermediate
Duration: 40 min

AI agents in Salesforce are no longer theoretical. They're here. But as we move from deterministic code to probabilistic models, our old testing playbooks become obsolete. How do you QA a prompt? How do you regression test a model update? How do...

you prove your agent is reliable, accurate, and safe before and after go-live?

Based on my work building the testing and authoring frameworks for Salesforce AI Cloud, this session skips the "what is AI" fluff and gets straight to the "how-to."

You will learn:
- A practical framework for the AI agent lifecycle (from authoring to monitoring).
- Why "prompt engineering" is only 10% of the job and "prompt evaluation" is the other 90%.
- Concrete patterns for testing agents: establishing ground truth, building test harnesses, and using benchmarks.

Why Attend:

Many people are talking about building with AI, but very few are talking about how to validate, test, and trust it, which is the #1 problem practitioners face when trying to move from a cool demo to a production-ready feature.

Speakers: Kinga Kalisz
Level: Intermediate
Duration: 25 min

Marketing Cloud is evolving fast – Marketing Cloud Next, Data Cloud, and AI are changing how projects are delivered and which skills are really needed. If you are a Marketing Cloud Developer or Consultant, it is hard not to panic and wonder what your job will look like in the next few years.

I will focus on what this transformation really means for us – especially if you are still working mainly with classic Marketing Cloud today – and how to prepare for what is coming instead of just reacting to it.

I will start with simple, down-to-earth explanations to make sure we are all on the same page about what is changing. I will name the most common fears and doubts openly, and then translate them into concrete actions you can take.

We will explore:
- Which classic Marketing Cloud skills will still matter, and which are gradually losing value.
- Practical upskilling paths for Developers and Consultants, including where to start if you currently feel overwhelmed by Next, Data, and AI.

You will leave with a practical roadmap, not generic advice: a clear view of which skills to double down on, which new areas to explore, and how to start future-proofing your Marketing Cloud career as soon as you are back from the conference.

This workshop explores how to leverage the tools provided by Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to not only address the technical hurdles of EAI but also to align integration efforts with the core business domains. We will move beyond simply connecting disparate systems and delve into understanding the underlying business logic and data flows that must be integrated. This interactive workshop aims to provide you with practical, actionable knowledge and hands-on experience. You'll participate in scenario-based exercises, collaborative discussions, and trade-off analysis, ensuring you leave with new skills and tools to explore that will allow you to tackle real-world integration challenges.

Key Activities:

• Trade-Off Analysis: Perform comparative assessments of architectural options, weighing their pros and cons relative to the scenario's requirements.
• Quality Attributes Focus: Each scenario will highlight one or two critical architectural characteristics (e.g., "Time to Market," extensibility, composability) of EAI, which will be introduced and discussed.
• Decision Justification: Articulate the reasoning behind architectural choices, fostering a deeper understanding of how to align technical decisions with business needs.

Key Learnings: By the end of this workshop, you will have gained:

• Interoperability as a first-class citizen in architectural design. Understand the importance of designing systems with interoperability in mind from the start.
